Last weekend saw the start of the 2023 Lancashire County Championships at Liverpool.
The Wigan Best swimmers rose to the occasion producing some outstanding racing. The Women’s 200 back was probably the pick of the events as Best won six of the seven age groups with the twelve year old girls securing gold, silver and bronze. Whilst there are far too many impressive performances to mention everyone, the following deserve particular praise for the way they took on the race and didn’t wait for it to come to them.
Michael Meadows Dixon 100 fly
Alex Hornby 400 free
Alfie Owen 200 back
Cole Hood 200 back
Betsy Lloyd 200 IM
Lucy Vaughan 100 fly
It’s also worth mentioning the Women’s 200 breast 12 years age group where we had six swimmers in the top ten and the 15 years age group where we had five swimmers in the top ten but not one medal, those top ten performances need to be converted into medals for those swimmers willing to go to the next level.
All in all a great start to the competition but the club can’t rest on it’s laurels if it is to win Top Club for the third year in a row.
Well done swimmers, keep it up.
Thanks to Mel, Jen and James for their help on poolside and Ang, Anneliese, Ant, Chrissy and Lauren for their help officiating.
