The intense Summer National Qualifying period has now come to an end, and it is pleasing to report that 14 swimmers from the Wigan BEST Swim Squad have qualified for this years events.
Summer British National Swimming Championships
These Championships will take place at Ponds Forge Sheffield from the 26th July 2016 and will run through to the 31st July 2016.
4 Wigan BEST Swimmers have been placed higher enough in the rankings to be selected to compete over this 6 day event.
Harley Beentjes 16 years will compete in the mens 200m – 400m – 1500m Freestyle while 15 year-old Charlotte Nester will be racing the ladies 100m Breaststroke and 200m Individual Medley. Hannah Sheehan will also compete in the 15 years-old age group in the 100m and 200m Breaststroke while Melissa Braddock will race in the 16 year-old ladies 800m Freestyle
Summer English National Swimming Championships
The English Nationals will follow the British in Sheffield and will run from the 1st August to 5th August 2016. Here Wigan BEST have had 10 swimmers qualify in various age groups.
It is fantastic to report that 3 of the clubs older boys have managed to qualify for a major National event for the first, with Declan Hall racing in the 17/18 years boys 200m – 400m -1500m Freestyle, joining Dec for the first time will be 16 year-old James Cross who will go in the 400m Individual Medley and Matthew Silvester in the 200m
Freestyle. Harley Beentjes will join the lads in the 100m Freestyle and 200m Butterfly.
13 year-old Mia Greenough will compete in her first major National event when she goes in the girls 50m butterfly. In the same age group Jennifer Green has been selected to compete in the 50m – 100m – 200m Breaststroke. In the 15 years age group Wigan BEST will see Charlotte Nester compete in the ladies 50m – 100m -200m Backstroke and also the 50m – 200m Breaststroke. While Imogen Bailey will take on the 200m Butterfly. 16 year-old Melissa Braddock will compete in the girls 400m Freestyle, while Eleanor Bailey will take on the 50m-100m and 200m Butterfly in the ladies open age group.
