Wigan BEST swimmers produced some excellent swims at the Manchester Open Meet, with 12 year-old Ellie Molyneux and Melissa Braddock where determined to add additional events to their National Qualifying Time collection.
Competing in the girls 200m backstroke Ellie produced a magnificent effort to make the National mark powering her way down the last 50m finishing 3rd in a time of 2:34.32 just over a second inside the National time. Not content Ellie went on to produce her life time best in the girls 200m freestyle taking the silver medal in 2:17.44 and another National time to her collection. Team-mate Mel Braddock not satisfied with the 800, 400 and 200 freestyle NQT, that she has already to her credit she was going to make sure she added the 200 individual medley to her tally. Setting off with a determined butterfly leg it was clear that Mel was not going to miss this opportunity turning in 33.50 she went on to produce her fourth National time with an excellent 2:36.50 finishing in 3rd place.
In all Wigan BEST swimmers came away with 8 medals, from their weekend effort’s. Lucas Arrona took the silver in the mens 200 breaststroke, with Phoebe Vaughan adding to her growing collection of medals taking silver in the 15/16 girls 100m breaststroke. In the same age group Eleanor Bailey swam a strong 50m backstroke to snatch the bronze medal. 12 year-old Matthew Silvester is a name to look out for in the future when he finished in 35.47 to take the boys bronze in the 50 butterfly. Jasmin Hamer finished in a an excellent bronze position in the the ladies 400 individual medley. CLICK FOR RESULTS
